Come watch the USA Open National 5km Race Walk Championships Saturday, June 1 at 8:00 a.m. on the Plaza. Later, participate in a FREE SportWalk Clinic at 11:30 a.m. on the Concourse level. Then try the sport walking technique you learned in the clinic on the 3k Community Walk course at 12:00 p.m. on Madison Ave.

2013 USA 5km Race Walk Championships

The 2013 USA 5km Race Walk Championships for the men and women's Open division will be part of the 35th annual Freihofer's Run for Women. The Adirondack Association of USATF will host the national showcase which will feature America's best Race Walkers.

Albany's historic Empire State Plaza will be the site for the Certified 1Km loop to be negotiated 5 times, with the Open division winners sharing the $3000 prize money. The Fleet Feet SportWalkers, a USATF club will manage the organizational efforts. Come watch the excitement of the race walkers (some of whom manage seven minute miles) as they gracefully engage their hips and arms.

SportWalk Clinic

11:30 a.m., Concourse Level

The unique style and techniques of race walking will be demonstrated through a "See it, Feel it, Experience it" free clinic. Learning proper movements to enhance fitness efficiency will be the objective. Weekly SportWalking clinics are conducted at Fleet Feet Sports each Monday at 6:00 p.m. Try the 3k sport walk as part of the Freihofer's Community Walk begining at 12:00 p.m. on Madison Ave.  Register here and choose USATF Adirondack Race Walking as your organization.
